Weight and weight capacity

The Invacare 900 XT manual wheelchair has a weight capacity of 250 pounds. This is about average for weight capacities for a typical manual wheelchair. However, this chair only weighs in at 31 pounds, so considering the product weight to the chair’s capacity, we like this. Those looking for a larger weight capacity over the 250-pound range should look at a more heavy-duty style chair. These chairs allow for safer weight limits for those that require them.

Ability to fold and travel with the Invacare 9000 XT Chair

Invacare 9000 folded

The Invacare 9000 folds very tight and when combined with the lightweight of this chair it makes it an excellent travel chair for those that need to bring a wheelchair with them while on the go.

The highly customizable chair that can adjust in both seat-to-floor height and backrest makes this chair a serious contender in the lightweight wheelchair world. When folded this chair has a dimension of 11.3″ in width.

Cost

This chair is priced a little higher than some other chairs but because of how customizable it is it does warrant the price. The base model will cost around $650.00. Customizing this chair can bring the price higher. But right out of the box this chair has everything you need to.

Warranty

This chair comes with a five year warranty of fame and a one year limited warranty on wearable parts. This is in line with a lot of chairs in its class.

What we like

  • Highly customizable
  • Adjustable seat-to-floor height

  • Swing away footrests for easy getting in and out of chair

What we Don’t

  • Cannot return because of custom design. If you do not like this chair you are stuck with it. With that said this chair is highly reviewed with almost all positives.

Comparable chairs

The Invacare 900 XT manual wheelchair stacks up well in the lightweight wheelchair class. However, mobility aids like the Featherweight wheelchair are lighter at a better cost. But the Invacare is built more like a traditional chair because the push handles, swing-away leg rests, and overall appearance is more conventional than some of these newer style chairs.

At its current price point, the 9000 is on the lower side of pricing and has a weight capacity compared to the same high-end chairs in the lightweight and ultra-lightweight class.

Overall this chair stacks up well with some of the lightest manual wheelchairs on the market and would be a good condenser for anyone looking for a manual wheelchair that is lightweight, easy to travel with, and can be pushed by a caregiver.

Some of the Karman lightweight wheelchairs are comparable in price and weight and even the slight price different more may be enough to sway to go with a Karman. The build and ride of a Karman, especially the Karman S-115 Ergonomic Wheelchair may be enough to push you toward that model. The pricing is very similar and the chair is 5 pounds lighter.
